Companies are experimenting with the concept of open innovation, which let them reach out to talent beyond the firm. It is an innovative concept and companies are using this new strategy. But are companies, with all their good intentions, getting the most from open innovation?
The initial successes represent only the beginning but companies should take it one step forward. If you look at most of the widely cited examples of successful open innovation, the model in use poses a question to a group of "solvers" who then provide an answer. You might call this the transactional model of open innovation - involving only narrowly defined, short-term transactions. Problem posted, solution offered, payment made, transaction completed, all parties move on explores John Hagel III and John Seely Brown in their blog post on Harvard Business review.
This approach has two limitations. First, it misses the opportunity to build long-term trust-based relationships among participants. Second, it does not encourage participants to build cumulatively upon the contributions of others.
This evolution is beginning to occur spontaneously. One of the most prominent open innovation platforms discovered to its surprise that many of its most prolific Solvers were in fact supported by teams that had come together offline. These teams had been organized to bring together a more diverse set of skills and tacit knowledge that would be helpful in solving problems posted on the site. The company running this platform is now hard at work developing mechanisms to encourage teams to organize and creating collaborative workspaces that can help these teams to work together more effectively.
Following the recent hacking attacks on the search giant, Google's Co-founder Sergey Brin has said it has become "very hard to operate" in China, but he is optimistic Google can continue to "open up information for everyone everywhere, free of political censorship."
"In the past couple of years, especially since the Olympics, the situation has gotten considerably worse on a variety of fronts," Brin told Reuters. On January 12, Google had announced that it would stop censoring Chinese search results, and said it was considering shutting down its operations in the country.
Brin's comments are among the first by senior Google management on the issue since the announcement. He said that not only has information been omitted from the company's core search service in China, but also other Google products as well. "Other sites of ours, such as YouTube and Google Docs are blocked," Brin added.
Young researchers struggling to muster funds to establish their startups have reason to smile - the government Monday set up a corpus of Rs.55 crore to help scientists convert their prototypes to tangible commercial products.
"This (venture capital) fund will now help researchers become entrepreneurs," Science Minister Prithviraj Chavan said Monday.
The Rs.55 crore fund will be provided to startups registered with nearly 40 science and business 'incubators', which help researchers set up new companies, in the country during the 2010-11 financial year. These incubators help to take the laboratory prototypes to the masses as tangible products.
The fund will be managed by the Science and Technology Park in Pune, where the Indian Steps and Business Incubator Association (ISBA) secretariat is located.
Rajendra Jagdale, secretary general of ISBA, said the fund will help many new enterprises to come up as it would help researchers shift their innovation from the science lab to the market. This is the first ever venture capital fund for business incubation.
"There is no point producing a prototype or publishing a thesis hoping that someone will pick it up. Here ISBA and the fund will come to their help. ISBA is just five years old but they are doing a great job in networking for resources," Chavan said.
"The whole intention is to convert knowledge to enterprises," the minister said at the 4th ISBA conference here.
He said the Indian government has been at the forefront to help set up startup companies to generate employment among science and technology graduates.
"Innovation through incubation is the way forward for sustainable inclusive growth. This initiative will go a long way in achieving sustainable growth through science and technology tools," said R.M.P. Jawahar, president of ISBA.
India is currently spending around one percent of the GDP on research development, as compared to over four percent being spent by countries like Israel and Finland.

You can easily see that simply counting the number of inbound links does not give us enough information to evaluate a site. It is oblivious that a link from www.microsoft.com should mean much more than a link from www.trusstechnosofts.com/index.html. You have to take account link importance means popular link. I here are five ways to increase link popularity.
Link Text (Anchor text) :
The link text of any inbound link is vitally important, if you place targeted keyword or key phrase in link text surely it will help you in search engine result ranking. The anchor text should not too long. It should relevant and meaningful.
Relevancy of Referring Page: Apart from importance of link text second factor of link popularity is relevancy of page where you are placing link. e.g. Suppose we are promoting a site about valentine day gift site then you should you should think about gift shop site where much more importance that a similar link from a site about gardening.
Submitting to General Purpose Directory:
While submitting a link to a directory site there are such directory that contain only particular group of links. E.g. A site about health directory where are only about health such as diet, nutrition, skin care, fitness etc. And your site about electronic gadgets so there is better way to avoid such directory submission. You should always consider about general purpose directory where all type topics meet.
DMOZ Directory:
The DMOZ (www.dmoz.org) is an open directory project. This is the one of most popular directory in internet. If you submit your site to demoz directory you will get a valuable link from the directory itself as well as from related additional resources. This means that the DEMOZ directory if of great value to seo aware webmaster. You probably know that it is not easy to get your site into DEMOZ directory. There is an element of luck involved. Your site may appear in the directory a few minute after it has been submitted or it it may take months to appear. So you have to read all requirements that site have been defined.
Press Releases, News, Feeds, and Thematic resources:
This section is about site marketing rather than pure seo. There are many information resources and news feed that publish press release and news on various topic. Such sites can supply you with direct visitors and also increase your site popularity. If you do not find it easy to create a press release or piece of news, hire copywriters they will definitely help you to create new newsworthy. Look for resources that deal with similar topic to your own site. You may find man inherent projects that not in direct competition with you, but which share same topic as your site. Try to approach the site admin. It is quite possible that they will be glad to publish information about your project.
